POST-DOC
PHILIP PARNAMETS - NYU Social Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow
Philip completed his PhD in cognitive science at Lund University and has spent two years as a postdoc with the Emotion Lab at Karolinska Institutet. His research is grounded in a broad interest in the cognitive and computational mechanisms underlying preference change, decision making and learning, especially in the moral domain. In the Social Identity and Morality lab his work focuses on dynamic models of social learning about moral agents and of moral choices generally. Philip spends his spare time creating, listening or dancing to electronic music.

The Center for Conflict and Cooperation is a global scientific and educational hub dedicated to promoting inclusive, sustainable, and successful organizations and societies around the globe.

ABOUT
Our work stands out by taking a global perspective and integrating fundamental scientific research with practical application to deliver robust, versatile, and globally scalable insights and solutions. We bring together scientists worldwide and across disciplines to understand the social dynamics of intergroup conflict and cooperation–including social belonging, polarization, intergroup discrimination, ideological extremism–and their interconnectedness with topics like misinformation, climate change, A.I. technology, social media, and well-being. Through extensive outreach and education, we share the insights from our research with scholars and the broad public alike. Building on our expertise, we partner with policymakers, organizations, and civil society to translate research findings into real-world solutions. Our center is built on four pillars:
RESEARCH. With our multi-method research approach (e.g., big data, lab experiments, neuroscience), we develop foundational theoretical models of human psychology that can be applied across different contexts. Our research team has published over 150 papers in leading scientific journals (e.g., Science, Nature, PNAS) and has led several global mega-studies involving more than 100 collaborators from over 70 countries (e.g., on COVID-19 and climate change). We follow an open science approach, making our data and materials publicly accessible—resources that have been reused by over 100 labs worldwide.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING. Our center stands out with a strong focus on inclusive education and training. We educate young scholars and the broader public, reaching across demographic, regional, and sectoral boundaries. This includes educational videos for university classes, TedEd videos, free class syllabi, workshop materials, and mentoring columns.

OUTREACH. We pursue a comprehensive dissemination strategy that extends beyond traditional academic outputs, using diverse formats—popular media appearances, cross-disciplinary conferences, op-eds, newsletters, social media, a tradebook, and expert statements—to make insights accessible for academics, policymakers, industry, and civil society alike.

IMPACT AND SOLUTIONS. We facilitate cross-sectoral communication (e.g., White House, United Nations, Uber, General Mills) and strategic partnerships with practitioners (e.g., Google Jigsaw) to inform research questions and develop data-driven solutions—whether structural, technological, or human-centered. We designed one of the most successful strategies to reduce support for undemocratic practices tested to date.
